About PCCI

PCCI (Precision Concrete Craft and Innovations Pvt. Ltd.) is one of the very few consulting firms in India focused exclusively on concrete technology and innovation for hydroelectric and large-scale infrastructure projects. Our services span the full project lifecycle: mix design and performance concrete, thermal control and placement engineering, QA/QC systems, durability and service-life design, construction troubleshooting, and independent review. We have supported projects totalling 4,000+ MW across South Asia, bringing deep technical expertise in concrete technology for dams and hydropower infrastructure.

The Opportunity

PCCI is assembling a site team for a QA/QC consultancy assignment on a Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) dam under construction in India. This is an NHPC hydropower project being executed by a leading EPC contractor, with an internationally renowned design consultancy and European RCC dam specialists leading the design effort.

This is one of the few RCC dams currently under construction in India. You will work directly under the technical guidance of PCCI's Managing Director, Mr. A.K. Sthapak, a recognised authority in concrete technology with 40+ years of experience and a Lifetime Achievement awardee of the Indian Concrete Institute. You will also collaborate with international RCC dam experts engaged by the project's design consultant. For an engineer early in their career, this is a rare opportunity to build deep RCC expertise under world-class mentorship.

Role

As QC Engineer, you will work alongside the Team Leader to provide continuous quality monitoring during RCC and CVC placement. This is a hands-on role focused on testing, documentation, and real-time quality assurance on the dam.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor RCC and CVC placement operations, including aggregate production, batching, transportation, spreading, levelling, compaction, and curing
  • Conduct and oversee concrete testing: Vebe consistency, compressive strength, density, moisture content, nuclear density gauge readings, and core extraction
  • Monitor surface preparation and joint treatment for each RCC lift, including bedding mortar application, coverage verification, and timing documentation
  • Photograph and document every joint before RCC placement
  • Record joint classification (hot/warm/cold), mortar application times, and RCC placement times for each lift
  • Verify material test reports and inspection records against specifications
  • Assist in preparing monthly quality reports and progress reports
  • Monitor plant and equipment readiness before and during RCC placement
  • Maintain organized quality records, test data, and non-conformance logs

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in QA/QC on a hydropower or dam construction project, with exposure to RCC or mass concrete works
  • Hands-on experience with concrete testing procedures (cube/cylinder casting, slump/Vebe, density, core testing)
  • Working knowledge of IS/BIS codes, ACI, and ASTM standards relevant to concrete construction
  • Strong documentation skills: ability to maintain clear, organized quality records
  • Willingness to work on a remote site with demanding schedules, including shift-based coverage

Preferred

  • Direct experience on an RCC dam project (placement, compaction, joint treatment)
  • Familiarity with ICOLD Bulletins related to RCC (Bulletin 126, 177)
  • Experience with nuclear density gauge operation and calibration
  • Knowledge of bedding mortar mix design and application procedures
  • Exposure to thermal monitoring of mass concrete

Compensation

Competitive, commensurate with experience. Includes site allowance for remote posting. Details discussed during the interview process.
